Wake leisurely on Christmas morning, exchange gifts and head off for a stroll on Levisham Moor to Skelton Tower and around into the village, checking in at the Chapel of Ease to hunt for the famous Mouseman carvings. Heading home to Grove House Levisham Station take the footpath through two meadows; watch here for Hares, Pheasants, Buzzards and Marsh Harriers; over the stone wall stile down the Gorse lined path noted for Badger prints and Fox markings. Turn the corner; take in the view across Newtondale and beyond from the well placed bench. Trot down the grass track, over the stile through the meadow and into the woods the home of Roe Deer, Squirrels, Tree Creepers and Woodpeckers. You’re back at Skelton & Rowntree Cottages for a piece of Christmas Cake.
Our cottage kitchens have full sized ovens, have pots pans, tins and bowls enough to prepare a full roast dinner.
The cottages as well as TV, Audi and Wifi there are books, games, jigsaws, playing cards, colouring books, and quizzes. If it is a white Christmas we have sledges for you to use. We have fabulous dark skies so take a short night stroll and some binoculars and you’ll be amazed what you will see.
Boxing Day take a ramble around the Hole of Horcum stopping off at The Horseshoe for a warming drink infant of the open fire, or walk down into Dalby Forest and see the Bride Stones. The NYMR Santa Specials will be running so jump on board.
For New Year take a drive to Robin Hoods Bay / Whitby and run, stroll or ride along the beach, splash in your Wellies, explore the rock pools or visit Castle Howard’s “Twelve Days of Christmas”.
